2007 Training

 Leadership by Design

Leadership by Design is an innovative leadership workshop, using behavioral science to identify participants strongest leadership style and recognize their own personality blend, acclimatizing it to those they are leading. The training, lead by YEA member Zahi Abdein, focused on spending less time on conflicts, increasing productivity and creativity among upper and middle management, winning more sales by understanding prospects’ motivations to buy and retaining loyalty of existing customers through personalization. Furthermore, the course focused on anticipation objections, actions and reactions before they occur.

 Reframing Leadership

This workshop was designed to help leaders of all shapes and sizes ignite, maintain, or redesign the critical discovery process that lies at the heart of all effective leadership. 

At the program’s conclusion, participants were able to; understand their leadership strengths, weaknesses and behavioral tendencies, use leading leadership theories to analyze their leadership preferences and performance, apply best practices to a range of leadership challenges, identify and communicate their leadership themes, and develop an action plan for personal development and for meeting a significant immediate challenge.

Presenters:

Steve Collins – LEAD’s Corporate Director of Research and Development, has lived in China and the Middle East for almost twenty years teaching leadership and management.  His clients in Jordan include development organizations such as USAID, UNRWA, and ICRC, private companies such as Royal Jordanian, Pfizer, and Eskadenia, and Business Associations such as Young Entrepreneurs Association, JABA, and the Institute for Management Consultants.

Donald Crawford – LEAD’s Jordan Country Director, has trained and equipped entrepreneurs and leaders throughout Central Asia, the Middle East and Europe for the past 12 years.   

 

 Building Your Business Mini MBA- FastTrac® Growth Venture™

FastTrac® GrowthVenture™ focuses on helping entrepreneurs take a step back, look at the big picture, and work ON their business, not just IN their business. Through this program, participants strengthened their ability to make critical decisions and equip themselves with the knowledge and skills needed to improve the performance of their business. The primary objectives of this Mini MBA was to help entrepreneurs effectively evaluate and improve their overall business strategy and vision for the future and the ability to maintain a competitive advantage in the marketplace.

Presenter:

David Mosby- Executive Advisor and Entrepreneur in Residence Beyster Institute Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence in Bahrain

David Mosby is a successful entrepreneur and educator with broad experience in the business, academic, and philanthropic communities.  As Lecturer of Management in the College of Business Administration at the University of Texas at Arlington, he has helped develop their emerging entrepreneurship program.  He co-founded the UTA Entrepreneur Society.  He developed a class and program that links business clients at the Arlington Technology Incubator with graduate and undergraduate students to work with start-up companies.  He has taught classes in Entrepreneurship, Multinational Management, Leadership, Small Business Analysis, Entrepreneurial Studies, Organizational Behavior, and Management Process Theory.  In 2003, he was nominated by his department for UTA’s Career Service Learning Award.  In 2004, he won the “Igniting the Flame” teaching award at the highly acclaimed Experiential Classroom for Entrepreneurs by Syracuse University.

He has extensive entrepreneurial experience.  At Exam One/MEDITEX, the testing company he ran for 15 years, he expanded revenues and increased profitability through strategic affiliations and sound operating decisions, eventually selling the company to its largest competitor.  He was elected by his peers to be Chairman of the Steering Committee of the national organization for the industry.

David has a BBA in Finance from the University of Texas at Arlington and an MBA from Texas Christian University.

 

 Networking 101

Networking 101 was custom tailored by Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Diab to prepare participants to network efficiently, prepare for specific events and network during the events, follow-up after events, and build participant networks and maintain them.

This short-course helped highlight key tips and hints that help utilize participants’ network to increase their professional effectiveness.  It included hands-on exercises and dialog to help better present participants and their organizations.

Presenter:

 Mary Elizabeth Diab, PMP has over fifteen years of experience in management, resource development and deployment, project planning and management, communications, business analysis, process redesign and automation, training and marketing.  She currently serves as a Director of Leadership Formation, a consulting company that assists organizations in setting strategy, aligning operations with strategy, executing projects, and capitalizing on their human resources.  Mary Elizabeth has worked in the association management, banking, education, financial services, local and national government, healthcare, information technology, manufacturing, marketing, telecommunications, and transportation arenas.  This experience was gained at organizations ranging in size from 9 employees to over 300,000, including both the IBM Corporation and Lockheed Martin.  Mary Elizabeth is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and has held many leadership positions within the Project Management Institute.

The program outlines the essentials of leadership that transcend time, place, culture, and situation. Upon completion of the course, participants are equipped with these basic laws of success which can be applied to business and private life, helping them reach their full potential.

An interactive bilingual session lead by HE Eng. Omar Maani, introducing the audience to the Amman Master Plan. This session provided attendees with an outlet to ask questions, share ideas and voice concerns directly with the Mayor.

 

Creativity, Innovation and the Challenges of Entrepreneurship

Michael P. Ryan, PhD, is Director of  the Creative and Innovative Economy Center at the George Washington University Law School, where he is coordinating and participating in a variety of research projects regarding the political economy, business, diplomacy, and ethics of creativity, innovation, and economic development in Africa, Asia, Latin American and the Middle East. He is presently writing The AIDS Social Contract in Africa; Responsibility, Innovation, and Organization and is the author of Knowledge Diplomacy; Global Competition and the Politics of Intellectual Property (1998) and Playing by the Rules: American Trade Power and Diplomacy in the Pacific (1995). He has served on the faculties of the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service and School of Business and the University of Michigan Business School; has been a guest scholar at the Brookings Institution and a guest lecturer at Chine University of Law and Political Science; holds a PhD from the University of Michigan and an MA from the Ohio State University.

Mr. Steven D. Strauss,an American business and franchise authority, lawyer and author, and one of the world’s leading entrepreneur experts gave a presentation on “How Small Businesses Can Make a Difference with E-Commerce”. Mr. Strauss’ remarks were followed by a panel discussion discussing increased global interdependence, the Internet, and transparency equaling great opportunities for Jordan.

The Panel consisted of Mr. Samih Toukan, CEO of Maktoob.com,  Mrs. Doha Abdul Khaleq, Co-founder and Head of the Human Resources Development Committee at Eskadenia Software, Mr. Amer Nasereddin, Vice President and Director of Sales and Marketing at Primus, and Mr. Mohab Murrar, CEO of BEAT.

 

Kids Corner: Weibdeh Neighborhood Arts and Crafts

YEA Kids' Corner was organized and run by YEA summer intern Nada Al Azem, providing YEA’s neighboring Weibdeh kids with a creative summer outlet. Nada, a high school student visiting from Syria, decided to take on the whole Kids' Corner project from  organizing activities, budgeting and leading each session.

YEA would like to thank both Nada and the CEO of Jordan Kuwait Bank (who covered our Kids' Corner costs) for creating a very memorable summer for the YEA and Al Weibdeh!
